Rootstrap’s Roadmapping process is a two to three-week workshop where we dive deep into the concept for your product, design a solution that solves the core problem while staying lean, and prepare you with everything you need to develop your product the right way. At the end of a Roadmapping session, you’ll come out with a clickable prototype, a step-by-step blueprint for development, and the knowledge that your product is ready for its users.
We break the Roadmapping process into several phases, each designed to push you closer to being ready for development. At every phase, our goal is to learn about your product and your users: we want to understand why people need your product, what they want from it, and how to get it to market as quickly and efficiently as possible.
At the start of a Roadmapping session, our aim is to define the core concept of the product. This goes beyond feature lists or screen flows: we’re trying to understand, plain and simple, what the product does. Tying into that, we’ll do a deep dive into your competitors to see who else is in the space, what they’re doing right, and how we can do it better. By the end of phase 1, we’ll have a clearly defined concept, a model of the customer journey, and a full understanding of where your product sits in its ecosystem.
With a core understanding of our basic problem and product concept, it’s time to explore as much of the solution space as possible. During sketching, we start throwing a lot of paint at the wall: we want to explore all the different ways we might build the product and solve the problem so we can narrow it down to the one way that will succeed.
Now that we have the product idea fleshed out, it’s time to build a prototype. Our designers will turn your concept into a beautiful, clean, and intuitive reality, creating a clickable prototype you can share with potential users and investors alike. This is where we take the work we’ve done and turn it into a tool you can use to test with users, raise money, and take your product to the next level.
With all the pieces in place, it’s time to get you ready for development. We’ll dive deep into the tech behind your product, creating a fleshed-out and prioritized backlog that tells you everything you need for both v1.0 and the full-scale launch, as well as an estimate you can trust, a timeline for full development, and a step-by-step roadmap for getting there. After our UX experts put the finishing touches on your prototype, you’ll be ready to raise capital, head into development, and bring your product to market the right way.
