Mobile App Development in Denver
Rootstrap has been developing world-class mobile apps for nearly a decade, and in that time, we’ve taken on just about every kind of mobile app development project under the sun. We’ve built lean, single-function MVPs, hulking enterprise mobile apps, experimental AR and VR installations, and everything in between. Our client list features the likes of Tony Robbins, Snoop Dogg, and Epson.
In other words, mobile app development is what we do. Our team of app developers serves the Denver market, but we’re a global team of more than 70 app developers, product strategists, UI architects, and mobile experience fanatics that combine superlative technical chops with time-tested experience in business and product strategy. We work with clients of all sizes and have seen no-name solopreneurs become wildly successful – but we work with Fortune 100 companies as well, so if your app really takes off, we have the resources to scale with you.
More importantly, though, our mission is to help you build an app that does take off. We’ve overseen more than 250 successful product launches, and we’ve designed apps from the ground up for world-renowned names. We bring that experience to bear on every mobile app development project we take on. We do more than just develop apps for the sake of it – our focus is to ground the design and development process in the objectives and model of your larger business, creating a mobile app that furthers your business and generates real ROI.
In keeping with that mission, we are a staunchly Agile app developer. Agile development is a framework for building software that focuses on creating functional software as early as possible: instead of writing a comprehensive plan and building the product to spec, we focus on building a quick-and-dirty, functional program as fast as possible. The principles of Agile development are outlined in the Agile Manifesto, which is kind of like our bible:
We use Agile development because it works. The only way to build an app that succeeds on launch day is by involving real users early on, then revising the concept and the features based on their feedback. Agile helps us stay lean and build something people actually want to use, and time and time again, that’s proven to be an effective strategy.

Mobile App Design in Denver
Before development, though, we need to focus on mobile app design – and that’s one of our specialties. In fact, we have a proprietary model for mobile app design called Roadmapping.
Roadmapping is Rootstrap’s flagship service offering. Roadmapping is largely how we made a name for ourselves, and it continues to lie at the core of our business philosophy.
Roadmapping is a 2-4 week pre-development product workshop. It’s a small, low-risk engagement that aims to answer the big questions about your mobile app before we start development: who is this for? What benefit does it provide to users? How will it fare in the existing market? Roadmapping is a way to de-risk your investment: we aim to answer the question of if the app is worth building before we start writing code.
Our app design process is different from most app developers in Denver. Most app development companies bake the discovery phase into their development process. We offer it as a standalone service because we’ve found it makes it more effective: it allows us to truly ask the question of whether the app will work, and if we find the answer is no, it still allows us the time to pivot.
But don’t take our word for it. The statistics on Roadmapping speak for themselves:
In other words, Roadmapping puts you in good company. Just hear what Tony Robbins had to say about our process:
“I reviewed the app and it’s totally spectacular. The approach that you took and the guidance you provided throughout the Rootstrap process has been phenomenal. I’m looking forward to continuing as partners!”

We break the Roadmapping process into 4 key phases
First things first – we have to understand what we’re building. In the initial phase, we work to completely define your app concept. Not just what it does, but how it helps its users –the key value proposition it provides.
Now it’s time to bring the baby to life. With a detailed understanding of the concept and core value proposition in place, your app design team will craft a comprehensive, high-fidelity clickable prototype of your product.
Finally, we’ll get you ready for development. Drawing on the work done in the previous three phases, your team will work with you to create a detailed product backlog: a comprehensive document that outlines every feature and functionality of the mobile app. We’ll then help you groom and prioritize this backlog, outlining exactly what you need to build for v1.0 and all subsequent builds of the product.
With the concept in place, we move into sketching. In this phase, our goal is to explore every possible solution and architecture we can think of. No idea is too obvious or too anodyne – it’s all about moving through the solutions and features that won’t work so we can get to the one that works the best.
iOS, Android, Rails - You name it, we support it.

Mobile App Development for iOS in Denver
Now, the immortal question:
Should I make Android or iOS apps?
We’d recommend developing for both the Android and iOS platform – but sometimes, resources force you to prioritize one over the other. There are great arguments for both, and ultimately it depends on the specifics of your mobile app. So why would you build an iOS app?
Looking purely at the numbers, iOS apps generate more global revenue than Android apps. The App Store generated roughly $40 billion in revenue in 2017, double the Google Play store’s $20 billion. It’s also significant that the App Store saw only 28 billion downloads, while Google Play saw 64 billion. This means, effectively, that the App Store generated twice as much revenue with half as many downloads. Pound for pound, iOS app downloads are worth more.
This is likely due to geographic distribution. Apple dominates in mature, developed consumer markets like the US, North America, and Europe. Consumers in these markets tend to have more money to spend on mobile apps, which can often mean iOS apps see higher revenue. And if you want to develop your mobile app in Denver, that’s an important thing to keep in mind.
Still, iOS development comes with drawbacks. The App Store isn’t a very flexible platform. They require a waiting period of up to two weeks to publish new apps and updates to your app, which slows down the iterative development process. Furthermore, Apple retains full control over what goes on the App Store. While it’s extremely rare, it’s possible to have your app rejected by Apple outright after development.
Still, iOS development is a lucrative enterprise, especially for mobile apps targeting the Denver and US markets. Thankfully, the engineers in Rootstrap are experts at native iOS app development.
Mobile App Development for Android in Denver
Apple isn’t everything, though. Android app development is still a worthwhile pursuit that comes with its own list of unique benefits.
For one, the Google Play store is much more flexible for app developers. Google Play allows changes and updates to go live in just 2 hours, which means we can improve the app based on user feedback in real time. For new startups trying to perfect their mobile app, this is a big advantage. User acquisition cost is also lower on Android, which means it’s faster and cheaper to iterate your product and build a user base.
Android is also better positioned for growth on a global scale. While Apple wins in North America and Europe, Android has a stronger position in Latin America, China, and many other emerging markets. That means Android may well see stronger growth over the next 5 to 10 years. Developing an Android app positions you to capitalize on that growth.
And hey – the App Store may make more money, but whatever anyone says, $20 billion and 64 billion downloads is still a big, juicy market.
