Sony’s Wonderbook Augmented Reality

Sony has just launched Wonderbook, its augmented reality project connecting kids, books, and technology.  Connected to a PS3 game console, Wonderbook uses an actual book as the marker which triggers images and storylines that are displayed on the television when the book is held in view of the PlayStation camera.

The technology is truly interactive with multiple scenarios and components available to the user.  It’s promotional info positions Wonderbook as a cross between a pop-up book and a choose-your-own-adventure collection of stories.

The first augmented reality book slated for release with Wonderbook is a new Harry Potter tome entitled The Book of Spells, with story contributions by author JK Rowling.  Potter fans will be able to use a video game controller that will appear on screen as a magic wand.
