The year is all but over, and 2015 was Neon Roots’ biggest year yet. There’s so much to look back on and so much more to look forward to. The Neon Roots team doubled in size. We opened two new offices. We partnered with powerhouse companies. We developed ground-breaking products. And despite an insane amount of growth, our team is a closer family than ever. So let’s take the ol’ proverbial trip down memory lane.
CES 2015, Epson, And The AR Experience Of The Year
Neon Roots started the year off strong by heading to the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. We were there with electronic behemoth Epson to showcase some new augmented reality apps for their Moverio BT-200 Smart Glasses. Our booth was a hit and even caught the attention of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who stopped by to check out the competition to his Google Glass. Along with the new AR experiences for the Moverio, we also developed a wireless label printing app for Epson’s LabelWorks which is now available everywhere.
Neon Roots & USC: Education Through Augmentation
One of our proudest endeavors of 2015 came early in the year as well. We partnered with the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism to develop an app for the Los Angeles Public Library. Alongside talented USC students we helped tell the story of the LA landmark through an interactive, augmented reality experience. Building the ARchive LAPL app was incredibly rewarding and helped get a new generation of tech-savvy readers excited about the historic building.
2015: Year Of The Snoop
Is there such thing as too much Snoop Dogg? No. The answer is no. Working with Snoop and the Cashmere Agency gave us the chance to stretch our creative legs and take on some our biggest challenges to date. First, we reinvigorated Snoop’s photo-enhancing Snoopify app by adding new stickers and tying it in with major motion picture releases like TED 2.
But our biggest work with the Doggfather was still to come.
This year we helped Snoop and Cashmere develop and launch MERRYJANE.com, a massive media site dedicated to cannabis culture. Videos, shops, original content – the site has been our biggest endeavor and the most recognized to-date, gaining media coverage from every major outlet across the country. It was the perfect way to end the year with a bang (or puff of smoke).
All of our hard work didn’t go unrecognized either…
Awards, Recognition, And A Few New Bragging Rights
2015 saw Neon Roots land on several lists for top mobile app development companies and top responsive websites.
- 10 Best Design
- Graphic Design Junction
- Top Application Development Companies In The USA
That wasn’t all, though. We also launched a new company site – Neon Roots 3.0, a site that grabbed a lot of attention.
We were in the running for the 2015 Awwwards. Our main site, along with MERRY JANE, were nominated by the CSS Design Awards. And perhaps the most exciting, we were among only five sites to be nominated in the category of best Website/Blog at Hollywood’s annual Geekie Awards.
The year was huge, almost indescribably huge. But 2015 is over and we’re always looking forward. Our incredible team will continue to blow your collective minds with new projects, new partnerships, and new ways to make life easier and more interesting.
Thanks for an amazing year and will see you in the next one!
