Hacker School in NYC Open for Summer Applications

hacker-300x199.jpgIf you’re a programmer who wants to gain sharper skills and expand your working knowledge of different coding languages, Hacker School is currently accepting applications for its 2013 summer program.  Hacker School is an immersion program in NYC (you have to attend classes on site).  The program runs Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30am to 6:30pm for the course of three months.  The summer session will start June 3 and end August 22.  And the best part is that it’s free.

Hacker School is project-based and self-directed so there are no lectures or formal structure.  The focus is on learning multiple programming languages and everything that is produced is free and open source code. It’s a collaborative program that works through skills sharing and contribution.  There are residents at Hacker School.  Residents have a strong expertise in programming and they spend 1-2 weeks at Hacker School working side by side with students.

Hacker School is also helping to alleviate the steep gender divide in the coding world with 35-45% women programmers in each session.  They also offer a limited number of $5,000 need-based grants for women to help with living expenses during the three month program.
