Mobile App Development in Atlanta, GA
Mobile app development is bread and butter. It’s where we cut our teeth, and while we’ve branched out to offer a variety of services, mobile app development is still our core business.
That said, our aim is to do more than just build you an app. We strive for ROI-driven development: we make design and development decisions grounded in your overarching business objectives, and we’ve structured our development process to center the user. We also think about more than just building the product. We’ll help you flesh out the business model, the go-to-market strategy, and everything you need to build a successful business out of your mobile app.
We use an Agile development framework at Rootstrap. Developed in the early 2000s, Agile software development is a methodology that focuses on creating working, functional software as early as possible in the development process. The principles of Agiles inform every aspect of our business – and they’re best stated in the core values of the Agile Manifesto:
Agile is a development framework that gives us the flexibility adapt to new information as we learn it without sacrificing efficiency. Whether we’re working with a solo entrepreneur or a Fortune 100 client, we base everything we do in an Agile development framework. Time and again, we’ve found that running Agile helps us build better software and run a better business.

Mobile App Design in Atlanta, GA
But before we can develop the app, we have to start with mobile app design.
This is where Rootstrap really shines.
At Rootstrap, we have a unique, proprietary process for mobile app design. It’s called Roadmapping. Roadmapping is a pre-development product workshop designed to hone the concept of your app, validate it against the marketplace, and build a step-by-step blueprint for development. Taking place over the course of two to four weeks, Roadmapping helps you answer the big questions around your app before starting development – so when you do start building, you can do it with confidence.
But wait. Doesn’t everyone do this? Plenty of app developers in Atlanta and other cities offer some form of discovery work, but it’s usually baked into the development engagement. It’s a phase one to building the product. It might affect some of the decisions, but again: it’s just a phase.
We structure the engagement differently. Roadmapping by Rootstrap is a standalone engagement, completely separate from app development. We offer a development credit if you choose to work with us, but that’s not a given – you can take your Roadmapping deliverables to any Agile shop in the world.
Why do it this way? In a word, it keeps us honest. Structuring Roadmapping this way lets us ask hard questions in earnest: who needs this? Will anyone pay for it? Is this product worth building? In our experience, packing this into a phase of development tends to lead to big “yes” answers to those questions – in other words, you find what you’re looking for.
But with Roadmapping, we have the freedom to find answers we may not want to. If we decide the product isn’t worth building in its current form during Roadmapping, we still have the freedom to change – because we haven’t written a single line of code yet. Roadmapping preserves the freedom to pivot. And if we do decide that building is a good idea, you can head into development with confidence.
First things first – we have to understand what we’re building. In the initial phase, we work to completely define your app concept. Not just what it does, but how it helps its users –the key value proposition it provides.
With the concept in place, we move into sketching. In this phase, our goal is to explore every possible solution and architecture we can think of. No idea is too obvious or too anodyne – it’s all about moving through the solutions and features that won’t work so we can get to the one that works the best.
All the fundamentals are in place. Now it’s time to make it real. Your app designer will work with you to create a high-fidelity clickable prototype of your product. This acts like a model for your app: there’s no functional code, but users can click through every screen of the app and see it with all the branding and design elements in place.
Refine & Prep
Finally, we’ll get you ready for development. Drawing on the work done in the previous three phases, your team will work with you to create a detailed product backlog: a comprehensive document that outlines every feature and functionality of the mobile app. We’ll then help you groom and prioritize this backlog, outlining exactly what you need to build for v1.0 and all subsequent builds of the product.

Mobile App Development for iOS in Atlanta
When people think app development, their next thought is usually iPhone apps. And besides pure bias, there are some good reasons for that.
In terms of dollars, the iOS app market is the biggest in the world. Apple’s App Store brought in about $40 billion of revenue in 2017, eclipsing the Google Play store’s $20 billion. Apple also dominates consumer tech in mature markets like the US, North America, and Europe, which means that iOS consumers usually have more money to spend on apps than Android. And if you’re launching your app locally in Atlanta, iOS app development lets you tap into that.
The Rootstrap team has built native iOS apps in just about any industry and language you can think of. Our app developers are at home in Objective-C, Swift, C+, C++, and any other you care to name, and we’ve built everything from lean MVPs to big-budget enterprise mobile apps. If you want to build an iPhone app, we can make it happen – no matter how big your dreams get.
Mobile App Development for Android in Atlanta, GA
So if iOS app development is so great, what about Android?
Believe it or not, Android app development has a number of distinct advantages. The Google Play store is actually much more flexible than the App Store, giving us the freedom to push changes in a matter of hours instead of days. This means we can update your app almost instantly, making iterative development much faster.
User acquisition is also cheaper on Android, which means you can grow your user base on a lean budget. Combined with the flexibility, Android app development lets us launch your app, start gathering data from users, then use that data to iterate the app in real time – making it much faster to improve your product. For early stage startups that still need to hone an untested product, Android app development can be a great launch strategy.
Finally, Android apps are much better positioned for global growth. Apple may reign in North America and Europe, but Android has it beat pretty much everywhere else – and that includes fast-growing markets like Latin America and China. Over the next 5 years, it’s likely that Android will grow faster in these markets than Apple. Android app development puts you in a position to capitalize on that growth.

Ultimately, though, neither one is better. Whether you develop on iOS, Android, or both, the decisions you make in building your app depend on your concept, your target user, and the specifics of your product. At Rootstrap, we can help you answer these questions as well as build your app for you.
